Empowering the Next Gen: School Visual Screenings

Children rarely complain about poor vision because they assume everyone sees the world exactly as they do. This makes routine visual screenings in schools vital for early childhood development. In May 2026, Maeyes Foundation conducted a comprehensive pediatric eye screening drive at Gyanjyoti Academy.

Our clinical team screened a total of 1,085 students during the drive. Using pediatric autorefractometers and specialized visual chart testing, we identified students suffering from refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism) and lazy eye (amblyopia). We prescribed 30 free spectacles, tailored to fit children comfortably.

In addition to vision tests, we conducted classroom seminars to educate students and teachers about digital eye strain. With the rise of virtual classrooms and screen usage, children are increasingly vulnerable. We taught them simple rules like the 20-20-20 rule to maintain visual health.

We are incredibly grateful to Maeyes Foundation for this initiative. Many of our students who were struggling academically are now performing much better after receiving their spectacles!

Early detection is key. This is a very useful program. I hope you cover all government schools in Dibrugarh next!
